I think I can honestly say that I am not afraid of anything else anymore, because I have seen a concrete guardrail from 2 inches away going 80MPH. This left hand side of the road, passenger rides on the left is way more complicated than you think. The primary rule of thumb which we recited ad nauseum, "stay left, look right", only covers so many bases. Throw in several hundred round abouts, mix in your natural instinct to want to jump the car into the right hand lane because that is what you have done since you were 16, toss in a "mid-size" car made by Ford, driven by Shinn, and loaded to the gills with Country and all of our sheeyut and you get the picture! Whomever decided that Americans all drive on the right, was probably the same clown who decided we would not use the metric system for temperature and measurements, while the rest of the world does things the correct way.
It took a concentrated effort of all 3 of us to navigate our way out of Christchurch, but we actually figured it out and commenced our 400 mile drive to Queenstown. Saw many sights along the way including these azure blue glacier lakes in the mnts outside of QT. Drive culminated in us decending into QT with Led Zeppelin on the Ipod singing "Misty Mountain Hop" and "Stairway to Heaven". Very surreal and sympatico.....This place truly is heaven on earth.
